Luke is going to return, but not to the small or big screen, but to the pages of the comics. Marvel just announced (via Comic Book) who are publishing a new three-issue miniseries focusing on this Harlem hero. It’s going to call Luke Cage: City of Fire and it will be released in October .. That title is not random. While he is going to face a group of villains called the Regulators, the hero will also come into conflict with the local police after an Afro-descendant man from the Cage community is shot and killed.

Needless to say, this new story will reflect on the police brutality that affects the United States and that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement. I cannot deny that the experience with the police in that country, and in many others, changes if you are of color. There are countless examples of people who have been killed by the police. In many cases it has been without provocation and even in their own homes. That has caused many people to rethink the role of state security forces in cities.
It is interesting and important that Marvel has decided to use one of its most urban and also Afro-descendant heroes to talk about this important topic. It wouldn’t have the same impact if the story centered on, say, Peter Parker. Speaking of history, this is going to be written by I have Che Anderson, known for his biographical comic about Martin Luther King, while the art will be carried out by Farid Karami in the first issue, of Ray-Anthony Height in the second and Sean Damien Hill in the last. Anderson had this to say about his debut at the House of Ideas:

I cannot express how excited I am to do a project with Marvel, and about the level of talent they have brought together to work with me. I have been given the freedom to explore a subject that I am very passionate about through the lens of characters that I have loved since I was a child and I fully intend to work overtime to ensure that the results are trustworthy. have given. Fortunately, the heavy lifting is going to be done by my amazing collaborators, who are going to make me look better than I am.
It is definitely a relevant project today and one that more than one would love to see in the MCU, whether in the movies or in a Disney Plus series. Marvel has yet to say what its plans are with the character. Many fans wish they would revive Luke Cage – 78% of Netflix, but that remains to be seen. It would really be a shame if this character was not put to use in the MCU.
Here is the official announcement that Marvel made in which the synopsis of this story comes:
