JAKARTA – After traveling the world and receiving the highest award at the Locarno Film Festival, film Like Revenge, Longing Must Be Paid Completely Edwin’s work will eventually return to Indonesia. With all the topics of virility and love, this film is able to bring fresh air to the Indonesian film industry.
Like Revenge, Rindu Must be Paid Completely is a film adaptation of the novel of the same title written by Eka Kurniawan. Set in the late 80s, this film tells the story of the life of Ajo Kawir, a hero from Bojongsoang who is known for making trouble.

For Ajo, fighting is the only thing that can make him feel alive; he will find any excuse to beat up, and get beat up by, someone else. Ajo’s unique principle seems to have been born of a deficiency that prevented him from creating life; he is impotent.
One day, while looking for someone to beat, Ajo met a female fighter named Iteung. Successfully beating each other to a pulp, the fight between the two of them even planted the seeds of love in them. And, because of the similarity of hobbies and principles, Ajo and Iteung finally got married.
Departing from a mediocre and violent life, Ajo and Iteung’s life did not go smoothly. Ajo’s impotence gradually causes boredom in Iteung, which makes this small family torn in two because of a tragedy.
The final half of the film is filled with scenes of healing Ajo and Iteung’s souls, where Iteung must travel to avenge those closest to him, and Ajo has to go far from home so that he can rekindle his longing for Iteung.
Having a simple but twisty plot, Edwin said that he wanted to present the story of Ajo and Iteung as simple as possible; different from his book which is full of jumpy plots.
“I feel that I don’t have to be loyal to the book, the important thing is to maintain the energy it brings,” he said at the press screening Like Dendam which was held on Wednesday, (17/11/2021), “there is a slight change in the structure of the story from novel to film, because in the novel the story is jumping.”
